MADAWI AL RASHEED

Madawi is a descendant of a mighty family that once competed with Al Saud for the rule of Arabia - and lost, thanks not least to Getrude Bell's judgement of one of Madawi's ancestors. Madawi grew up in Saudi Arabia and is today one of the foremost and outspoken critics and authorities on the developments in the Kingdom. Not only does she challenge one-dimensional portrayals of Islamists, but she the superficial international media coverage about the Kingdom. Although many of her books are indexed in Saudi, she continues to work on political issues and the social fabric of what remains the most poorly understood countries in the Muslim world: Saudi Arabia.
